The indigo from the Awa region is considered high-quality Awa indigo among indigo dyes, and its excellence has earned it the name "Sho-Ai," receiving high acclaim and becoming known worldwide as "JAPAN BLUE."
Dyeing is performed by immersing the material in a dye made by fermenting the raw indigo.
Since it cannot be dyed in one go, the process of dyeing and drying is repeated many times, creating the captivating depth of color unique to natural indigo. The color and luster also deepen with age.
The snakeskin is from a diamond python, also known by its Japanese name amime nishikihebi (reticulated python), considered the world's longest reptile, with some growing up to 10 meters.
It is called a diamond python because of the diamond-shaped patterns all over its body.
Also, the scales of snake skin are integrated with the skin, so they do not peel off like fish scales, and standing scales will settle down with aging.
