Made from thick canvas woven on the west bank of Lake Biwa. A large amount of wax is infused and set into the gaps of the fabric, which is woven slightly loosely using high-strength threads.
Afterward, it undergoes a bio-wash in Kojima, Okayama Prefecture, the home of denim processing (tumbling in a drum containing microorganisms that prefer cotton, which creates undulations and a silky texture in the fabric, and adds strength by shrinking it by 10%). This makes the material resistant to losing its shape and less prone to dirt even after many years of use.
The thick oil leather, which can stand up to the strong presence of the fabric, will show beautiful aging over time, making it a design that can be cherished for a long time.
The leather details on the flap and straps are a testament to the designer's commitment.
《Mission as a Functional Material》
As it is waterproof canvas, even if mud or similar gets on it, the dirt can be almost entirely removed by tapping or brushing it after it dries.
Additionally, it is a functional canvas where the threads absorb water and expand when wet, preventing water penetration, and then allow air through when dry. Historically, it was used as tarpaulins for trucks carrying fruits and vegetables.
Although it is a rare material due to its high functionality and strength, original colors have been created, and it has become a signature material for Seagull Ship.
